How we write and review our health pages

Health information is only useful if it can be trusted. These are the rules every page in the library follows.

  1. 01

    Written from recognised sources

Each article is drafted from the public guidance of recognised health bodies, such as the World Health Organization, the NHS, the US National Institutes of Health and MedlinePlus, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is written in our own words, in plain language.

Every source is listed at the foot of the article, with a link, so that you can check it for yourself.

  2. 02

    Reviewed by named doctors

Articles are reviewed by Arihant doctors who treat the condition. When an article has been reviewed, the doctor's name, speciality and the date of the review are shown at the top of the page, and link to the doctor's profile.

An article that does not show a reviewer has not been reviewed yet. It still lists every source it was written from. We never show a reviewer's name on a page that doctor has not read.

  3. 03

Dated, and corrected in the open

Every page shows the date it was last updated. When medical guidance changes, or when a reader or a doctor points out a problem, the page is corrected and the date changes with it.

  4. 04

    Information, not a diagnosis

These pages explain conditions in general. They cannot know your history or examine you, so they cannot tell you what you have or what you should take. Only a doctor who has seen you can do that.

The “Should I worry?” check on each page repeats the article's own advice about when to get help, as questions you can answer. It does not diagnose, and nothing you tick is stored or sent anywhere.

  5. 05

    No advertising, no sponsors

Health pages carry no advertising and no sponsored content, and they do not recommend brands of medicines or products.

  6. 06

    In your language, and aloud

The key points of each article are given in English, Hindi and Marathi. The translations are reviewed by a doctor who speaks the language, like the rest of the page.

“Listen” reads a page aloud using a voice that is already on your phone or computer. Nothing is recorded or sent to us.
