Tesla Imaging and Intervention: Super-specialised radiology.
Tesla is the radiology unit of Arihant Multispeciality Hospital, Nagpur. MRI, CT, ultrasound, X-ray and image-guided treatment.
A scan is only as useful as its report.
At Tesla, the report says what each finding means for your treatment.

Super-specialised radiology
Orthopaedic, paediatric, cardiothoracic, neuro and cancer imaging, each read by a radiologist trained for it.
Cutting-edge technology
A 3 Tesla MRI, a multislice CT, 4D ultrasound with elastography, digital X-ray, mammography and an interventional suite.
World-class ambience
A centrally air-conditioned unit of over 5,000 sq ft, with ample parking, an ambulance, and services that run 24 × 7.
The machines.
These are the machines in the Tesla film. Each has its own page: how it works, what it shows, and what it asks of you.
Which scan do you need?
Choose what needs looking at, and read what is usually used, and why.

Brain, spine or nerves
Usually: MRI, with CT in an emergency
MRI shows the brain and the spinal cord in the finest detail, without radiation. It is the scan for headaches that will not go, seizures, stroke, memory loss and pain that travels down a limb. In a head injury or sudden stroke, CT comes first because it takes seconds.
At Tesla
- 3T MRI with a 32-channel neuro coil
- DTI, perfusion, ASL, fMRI and CSF flowmetry
- Stroke imaging and neurointervention
How long. MRI takes twenty to forty-five minutes. CT takes minutes.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Bones, joints or a sports injury
Usually: X-ray first, then MRI or 3D CT
An X-ray shows a break or a worn joint. A ligament, a tendon or cartilage shows on MRI. A complex fracture is planned from a 3D CT, and the bone around a metal implant can be seen clearly with implant subtraction imaging.
At Tesla
- 3T MRI with coils for every joint
- 3D CT and implant subtraction imaging
- Whole limb scanogram
How long. X-ray and CT take minutes. A joint MRI takes about half an hour.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Heart and chest
Usually: CT, MRI and echo
A coronary calcium score on CT measures the calcium in the heart's arteries. Cardiac MRI shows the muscle, the valves and scarring. A 2D echo is an ultrasound of the heart. For the lungs, a low-dose high-resolution CT gives the finest picture.
At Tesla
- Cardiac and stress MRI
- Cardiac CT and calcium score
- Low-dose high-resolution chest CT
How long. A calcium score takes minutes. Cardiac MRI takes forty-five minutes or more.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Liver, stomach, kidneys or abdomen
Usually: Ultrasound first, then CT or MRI
Ultrasound is the first look at the liver, gall bladder, kidneys and pancreas, and elastography measures how stiff the liver is. CT and MRI answer what ultrasound cannot: the nature of a lump, and how far a disease has spread.
At Tesla
- 4D ultrasound with Doppler and elastography
- Advanced hepatobiliary imaging
- Barium studies and IVP
How long. Ultrasound takes fifteen to thirty minutes. You may be asked not to eat beforehand.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Breast
Usually: Mammography, ultrasound and MRI
Mammography finds changes too small to feel, and ultrasound is added for a lump or for denser tissue. MRI is used when the answer will change treatment: in women at high risk, for a known cancer, or when the other scans are not enough.
At Tesla
- Mammography
- 3T MRI with a dedicated breast coil
- Imaging-guided biopsy
How long. A mammogram takes about twenty minutes.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Pregnancy and the baby
Usually: Ultrasound, and fetal MRI if needed
Ultrasound follows a pregnancy from the early scan to the anomaly scan and the growth scans, with no radiation. Doppler checks the blood flow to the baby. When a question is left, fetal MRI looks at the baby's brain and body in more detail.
At Tesla
- Nuchal translucency and anomaly scans
- 3D and 4D fetal sonography
- Fetal echocardiography and fetal MRI
How long. A detailed scan takes thirty minutes or more.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

A child
Usually: Ultrasound first, MRI and low-dose CT when needed
A child is scanned with the least radiation that will answer the question: ultrasound first, with a probe made for them; MRI with a child's coil when more is needed; low-dose CT only when it will do. Tesla has anaesthesia available round the clock for paediatric imaging emergencies.
At Tesla
- A dedicated paediatric ultrasound probe
- 3T MRI with a paediatric coil
- Low-dose whole-body CT
How long. It depends on the scan. A parent can stay until the scan begins.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Prostate, kidneys or pelvis
Usually: Multiparametric MRI and ultrasound
A multiparametric MRI of the prostate combines several kinds of picture to show whether a suspicious area is likely to matter, so that a biopsy can be aimed at it, or avoided. Ultrasound and CT look at the kidneys and the bladder.
At Tesla
- Multiparametric prostate MRI
- TRUS biopsies
- Kidney and pelvic imaging
How long. A prostate MRI takes about forty-five minutes.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Arteries and veins
Usually: Doppler, then MR or CT angiography
Colour Doppler shows narrowed arteries and clots in veins in minutes, with no dye. MR or CT angiography maps the vessels of the whole body when more is needed. If a vessel needs treating, the interventional suite can often do it through a pinhole.
At Tesla
- Colour Doppler
- Whole-body non-invasive angiography
- Angioplasty, stenting and vein treatment
How long. Doppler takes about thirty minutes. Angiography varies.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Cancer
Usually: MRI, CT, ultrasound and biopsy
Imaging finds a tumour, shows how far it reaches and tells whether treatment is working. Biopsies are guided by ultrasound or CT to the exact spot, and some treatments are given by the radiologist directly into the tumour.
At Tesla
- Dedicated oncoimaging
- CT-guided and ultrasound-guided biopsies
- TACE, TARE, radiofrequency and microwave ablation
How long. It depends on the scan. The team will tell you when you book.
Your doctor, with the radiologist, decides which scan is right for you.

Quick answers.
What is Tesla Imaging and Intervention?
Tesla is the radiology unit of Arihant Multispeciality Hospital in Nagpur: a 3 Tesla MRI, multislice CT, ultrasound with Doppler and elastography, digital X-ray, mammography and an interventional radiology suite, in a centrally air-conditioned unit of over 5,000 sq ft. Its services run 24 × 7.
What does 3 Tesla mean?
The tesla is the unit in which the strength of an MRI scanner's magnet is measured. A 3 Tesla scanner has twice the field of the 1.5 Tesla scanners found in many centres, which gives a stronger signal: finer detail, or a quicker scan.
Is Tesla open at night?
Yes. Tesla's services run 24 × 7, with an ambulance and anaesthesia available, so emergency scans for trauma, stroke and other medical emergencies are possible at any hour.
Can I bring a scan from elsewhere for a second opinion?
Yes. Tesla offers a second opinion on scans done elsewhere. Bring the images, on a disc or as files, with the report, and the radiologists review them. Tesla also reports complex cases from other centres.
