Multislice CT
A CT scanner passes a thin beam of X-rays round the body and builds slices and 3D pictures from it. It is the scan for speed, and for bone.

The scan itself takes seconds.
It shows a fracture, a bleed, a clot or a stone within minutes.
The dose is kept as low as the question allows.
How a CT works
- 1
A ring turns
An X-ray tube and a ring of detectors circle you, while the table moves you through.
- 2
Detectors record
They measure how much of the beam gets through, from every angle.
- 3
Slices are built
A computer assembles those readings into thin slices.
- 4
A 3D picture
The slices can be stacked into three-dimensional pictures of bone, vessels or organs.

What it is best at
- Brain: a bleed, a stroke, an injury.
- Lungs and chest: a clot, an infection, a tumour.
- Abdomen: a stone, an infection, an obstruction.
- Bones: a fracture, shown in 3D.
Special scans
The heart
- Coronary calcium score.
- Cardiac CT.
The lungs
- Low-dose high-resolution CT of the chest.
- Pulmonary and aortic angiography.
Without a tube
- Virtual bronchoscopy, for the airways.
- Virtual CT colonoscopy, for the bowel.
Bones and implants
- 3D CT for fractures.
- Implant subtraction imaging, to see clearly past metal.
Low dose, by design
CT uses X-rays, and the dose, though small, is real. So a CT is done when what it shows is worth it, and the dose is set as low as the question allows. Tesla has low-dose methods for children, for the chest and for whole-body CT.

Multislice CT
FUJIFILM Supria, at Tesla. A Fujifilm Supria scanner, in a room of its own.
- Multislice scanning, so the scan takes seconds.
- Low-dose protocols for children, the chest and the whole body.
- Cardiac CT, calcium scoring, angiography and virtual endoscopy.
- CT-guided biopsy, to reach the exact spot.

Quick answers.
Is a CT scan harmful?
It uses X-rays, so there is a dose of radiation. A CT is done when it is needed, with the lowest dose that will answer the question.
Why do some scans use a dye?
A contrast dye, given through a vein, makes vessels and some organs show more clearly. Tell us about any allergy, asthma or kidney disease first.
Can I have a CT if I might be pregnant?
Tell us. We will decide with your doctor whether a different scan would be better.
